Care & Washing

We recommend washing your tie dye on a gentle wash cycle at 40°C or below. Avoid using harsh chemicals or bleach as these may damage the colours. To help preserve colours vibrancy, make sure to air dry only.

All of our garments are pre-treated before dyeing and thoroughly washed afterwards in order to prevent as much colour bleeding as possible. However, some slight bleeding may occur in the first couple of washes, so to prevent issues you may wish to wash your tie dye separately for the first couple of cycles.

No - our dyes are set and will never stain your washing machine. We run ours through washing machines repeatedly and have never faced any staining.

All of our tie dyes are made to last, so when cared for correctly, you should experience minimal fading. Always wash with cool water and gentle detergents plus avoid high heats whilst drying and your garment should stay vibrant for years to come.

To avoid any possible staining, wash your tie dye separately or with similar colours for the first few washes. After this, you should be good to go washing your tie dye with your regular laundry without any staining issues.

No - we use high quality heat transfers that stay vibrant after many wash cycles. Make sure to turn your printed garment inside out before washing and use cool water and gentle detergents. This will ensure your print will remain vibrant.

General Questions

Tie dye has its roots in ancient cultures from thousands of years ago, being traced back to places such as India, Japan and parts of Africa. These cultures used traditions such as Shibori in Japan or Bandhani in India to twist, fold and bind fabric together before being dyed, creating intricate patterns of vibrant colour.

It was then popularised by the 1960s counterculture movement in the United States, where it symbolised free-spirit creativity and evolved into the timeless tie dye style that we know today.

Tie dye was popular in the 70s because it became an iconic symbol of the counterculture movement that had begun in the previous decade. The hippie community openly embraced it as it symbolised their collective values of individuality, self expression, and freedom.

The psychedelic patterns tie dye creates also became associated with music festivals, peace protests and the era's vibrant art scene. Popular bands like The Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin helped tie-dye gain even more visibility, making it a cultural emblem of the 70s.

Well, this is where things get subjective. Which colours look good together is entirely a matter of opinion, but we definitely have some favourites:

  • Black + Anything
  • Blue + Pink + Black
  • Green + Purple + Black
